And he got 3rd place! Out of 45 boys! He was so excited. So now he gets to go to the district Pinewood Derby which is supposed to be in the next month or two.
James also had a good time last night. Last year he built an electronic timer for the derby, and this year he wrote a really cool program to go with it. As each boy checked in their car, James would record them saying their name. Then the computer kept track of the races and different heats and who was racing when and projected it up on the wall for all to see.
It also announced the places of each car for each race using the boys' own voices. It was really neat. This is where James spent most of the evening, except when Stephen was up and James would help him make sure his car was all set to go.
We all had a good time, but by the time it was almost done, Naomi looked like this.
We got home just after bedtime, and tried to get everyone into bed as quickly as we could. But it was a little hard to calm down after all that excitement.

Jane says that James should market that program and them you can be independently wealthy and move here. Anyway, looks like you had lots of fun, except maybe for Naomi. That was so cute. And Stephen makes a very handsome scout.
Okay, #1 James is the coolest cat alive for being capable and willing enough to do that for the kids. #2 That is so awesome for Stephen to have come in 3rd place!!! Keep us posted on how he does the next time, okay?#3 Naomi is so beautiful and sweet in that picture. What a sweetheart!
Way to go Stephen, you look great in uniform. I really like your car and James, you should market your program. I doubt that there is anything like that in use anywhere else. Keep up the good work.

Yea Stephen!!! Congratulations! And as for James, WOW...I wish I had his brain!!
Congratualtions Stephen! That is so exciting and James was amazing coming up with such a cool program. What a sweet girl Naomi is.
that's some really high-tech gadgetry for a race involving little wooden blocks with plastic wheels. It's also one of the coolest things I've heard about in recent memory.
I asked Holli how the Derby went on Friday and her direct quote was, "James is a genius!" ...then went on to brag about what a cool program he wrote and how smooth it made everything run. I told her it sure helps to have smart people to work with in your callings--Especially ones that are willing to share and put those talents to good use.
James would gladly package the software if anyone out there was willing to market it. James is an electronics genius, but he really is not a marketing kind of guy. So, if anyone knows someone who is great at marketing...
A big "Way to go" to both father and son! It is amazing to me that the world even contains people as capable as James. What really blows me away is that Stephen is in cubs already. It doesn't seem like that long ago that I was in Denver and saw the whole thing made official. Now, WHAM! The first born is wearing a uniform and winning car races. What's next, his PhD?
